VFD Alternatives: where Inovance & Delta
can replace Siemens & ABB

Whether a VFD can move to a Chinese brand depends on the power range and the application. Fans, pumps and conveyors leave plenty of room; high-power, high-dynamic and critical lines call for caution. This page gives you an honest, application-by-application judgment.

Variable Frequency Drive - ElecBridge
Short Answer

Whether a VFD can be replaced depends on the application and power range — not just power rating and price. Common applications like fans, pumps and conveyors usually leave room for alternatives; high-precision, high-dynamic and high-reliability scenarios need caution. The cost of the wrong VFD (downtime, a burned-out drive) far outweighs the saving — we help you judge what to switch and what to keep.

Replaceability by application

This is the first judgment in any VFD alternative. Get "which applications can switch" right, and you avoid most of the cases where a replacement fails.

ApplicationCurrentChinese optionsReplaceability
Pumps (constant-pressure / pump stations) ABB / Siemens Inovance / Delta / INVT Low risk · can switch
Fans (ventilation / cooling towers) ABB / Siemens Inovance / Delta / INVT Low risk · can switch
Conveyors / HVAC Schneider / ABB Inovance / Delta Low risk · can switch
General motor speed control Siemens / Schneider Mainstream Chinese brands Medium · evaluate
Hoisting / frequent start-stop ABB / Siemens Requires strict selection & validation Med-high · caution
High-dynamic / closed-loop control Siemens / ABB Caution — detailed evaluation needed High risk · caution
Critical lines / high heat & dust ABB / Siemens Keep in most cases High risk · keep

Another dimension — by power range

≤22kW: mainstream Chinese brands are broadly interchangeable, low risk. 22–75kW: mature and replaceable. 75–200kW: depends on brand and application, evaluate. 200–500kW: strict selection needed, caution. ≥500kW: keep in most cases. The same "switch to Inovance" is near-zero risk at 7.5kW but needs serious evaluation at 500kW.

FAQ

VFD alternative frequently asked

Q.01
Can Inovance replace a Siemens VFD?
In most common applications, yes — but it depends on application, power range, communication and environment. For pumps, fans and HVAC at low-to-mid power (≤75kW), Inovance is mature, with solid reliability and reputation. But high-dynamic, closed-loop, or complex Profinet communication with a Siemens PLC needs a detailed compatibility evaluation.
Q.02
Is an ABB VFD always better than a Chinese brand?
In demanding scenarios, ABB is still the safer bet. High power, critical lines, continuous operation, harsh environments — ABB has a clear edge in long-term reliability and service network. But for ordinary fan and pump applications, mainstream Chinese brands (Inovance, Delta, INVT) can cut overall cost by 30–50%, with a performance gap the customer barely notices.
Q.03
Is the same Siemens really cheaper in the China market?
Yes, often by more than you'd expect. The same Siemens model frequently sells through China-market channels at 20–40% below local distributor prices in many countries. That's an advantage of market scale — you can keep the brand and simply change the sourcing channel to get a better price. This layer is often overlooked by overseas buyers.
Q.04
What about after-sales for Chinese VFDs — who fixes it in my country?
A key question — but more manageable than you'd think. Inovance, Delta and INVT have local agents or service points in most major markets. Where they don't, we provide remote technical support (English-speaking engineers), spare-stock recommendations (keep 5–10% locally), and fast air resupply when something fails. "Local spares + remote support" can respond faster than some international brands' official channels.
Q.05
For high-power (≥200kW) VFDs, are Chinese brands really not up to it?
It's not that they can't — they just need more serious evaluation. Above 200kW, leading Chinese brands (Inovance, Hopewind, etc.) have mature products, but you must confirm: whether your specific application is within the proven range, whether that model has a running track record in your region, and whether after-sales can keep up. Above 200kW, we'll proactively tell you "keep the original brand here" — we won't recommend a high-risk switch just to win the order.
Q.06
How do I get you to evaluate a VFD alternative for me?
Send us the brand, model, power, application and annual volume of your current VFD. Within 48 hours you get an honest judgment — switch, switch with caution, or keep; and if it can switch, 1–3 specific options with expected savings. Completely free.
